Miki Yoshino from Japan and Adrian Pancucci from the UK are delighted to offer our new, one-day workshop – “Exploring Diversity Through Our Hearts And Bodies”.
This is a chance for you to participate in group exercises and activities that will help you deepen your awareness of the possibilities available to us when we connect across cultural divides.
Why this workshop? And why now?
For many of us, the world is shrinking. Technology, business, lifestyle and an increasingly globalized economy mean that we have more and more contact with different people and different cultures.
Cultural differences often keep people separate from each other. This happens on an individual and on a group basis. In Japan, for example, foreign communities and Japanese communities do not often mix.
Sometimes this separation means we settle for peaceful but indifferent co-existence. And at other times this separation causes misunderstanding and conflict.
So – imagine what would be possible if you could connect with anyone from anywhere and build productive, harmonious relationships regardless of cultural or personal difference? Imagine what you could do if you encountered personal and cultural differences but did not encounter barriers to communication and understanding?
Using whole group, smaller group and improvisation exercises, we will work together to explore our differences and what connects us, grow our awareness and give up unconscious assumptions.
Who are the workshop leaders?
Adrian and Miki are very different.
We are of different gender and age, come from very different parts of the world and have had radically different upbringings, education, careers and life experiences. When it’s morning in London, it is evening in Tokyo. When Tokyo is in the light, London moves into its night. We do not even share the sun and the moon.
And yet through working together and exploring our differences, we realized that essentially we are the same.
By building a strong connection with each other, we have space to express our differences fully and to recognize that fundamentally, we are the same. We are unique – exactly like each other and everybody else.
By exploring the infinite possibility in diversity, we remove any fear of difference and build a world of peace, fun and creativity.
Through this workshop, we will invite you into a world where we all celebrate and express our differences and discover that these differences don’t need to lead to problems and conflict because essentially, we are the same.
Who will want to attend this workshop?
People from every nationality, culture and walk of life are welcome to attend this workshop. We believe you will find it a valuable and enjoyable experience if you:
□ Are afraid of making mistakes
□ Love cross cultural communication
□ Are worried that your English or Japanese is not good enough
□ Feel there is separation between Japanese and foreigners in Japan
□ Enjoy non-verbal communication as well as verbal
□ People who are good at making scares
□ Want to have fun
PLEASE NOTE: The workshop is limited to 20 participants. We hope to have a diverse group of foreign and Japanese participants. We will handle inquiries on a first-come and first-served basis
Please wear casual clothes
Lunch time will start from 13:00 to 14:00
Please bring a pen and notebook with you. As this is an experiential workshop, there will be some light physical activities as well, so please bring whatever you need so that you can be comfortable.
Profiles:
Miki YOSHINO (Japan)
I was born in Kawagoe, near Tokyo in 1976. My first experience with diversity occurred when I was 4 years old after my family moved to Osaka from Tokyo. After entering kindergarten, I was picked on because of my “strange” Tokyo dialect. Because of that, I have always been interested in exploring and celebrating diversity through studying French and English, volunteering with handicapped people and foreigners in Japan. When I was working in a food company, I was strongly attracted a diverse community and to research that, I went to a graduate school. I found the same philosophy regarding diversity within The Coaches Training Institute and therefore, became a Certified Professional Co-active Coach. Besides cultural exchange and diversity, I love traveling, being with my friends and cats, studying English and chatting with friends over good food.
Adrian PANCUCCI (UK)
Born in London in 1970, Adrian is half British and half Sicilian. His British half is a mixture of Saxon, Spanish, Irish, German, Belgian, Roman and Viking, while his Sicilian half is probably a mixture of Italian, Arabic, Norman, Spanish and Ancient Greek.
Still living in the city of his birth, Adrian is married and is father to a 10-year old daughter. He works as a one-to-one and team coach and leadership/organisational development consultant. He enjoyed school as a young boy – but stopped liking it when he was a teenager, and so left with very few qualifications. He worked in a cinema and as a trainee sports journalist before starting a career focused on communication and relationships. That was in 1993 and by 2002 he set up is own company with his wife Lesley.
In 2008, Adrian trained with the Coaches Training Institute, followed by Systems Coaching training with the Center for Right Relationship in 2009. Adrian is now a professional Co-active and Relationship Systems Coach. He is passionately committed to working with individuals and groups to explore how they can transform, evolve and create powerful new methods for designing a new future.
